Meet some of the mothers whose hands and hearts shape Umi

Our story... and why we retired our Mothers day campaign' to make an even deeper impact for those that Umi was built to serve.

What began as a Mother’s Day campaign in 2012 has grown into a year-round social enterprise rooted in love, resilience, and purpose.

At Umi — “my mother” in Arabic — we’re on a mission to uplift vulnerable mothers across the MENA region by providing support, creative opportunities, and paths to financial independence.

Because when a mother rises, so does her whole community — she is its heart, its strength, and its foundation.

Our mission is to support as many mothers as possible in ways that are most suitable to them

We do so by..

Boosting their self-esteem and
promoting their well-being.

Providing skill set trainings and guidance to prepare them to enter the workforce.

Providing jobs or connecting them with our network of corporate partners to help them
get enroute to financial independence.

The Creative Embroider

Um Rahaf

Meet Um Rahaf, the lovely, gentle soul behind much of our beautiful embroidered work. Despite the challenging circumstances many Palestinian refugees face, we’re inspired by her strong dedication to improving her living standards and always providing what’s best for her two daughters. She always ensures they are involved in her work and teaches them that hard work, combined with faith, justice, and a connection to their roots, is the key to moving forward in this world.
The Famous Cook

Um Ahmad

Meet the inspiring Um Ahmad, well-known at Husn Refugee Camp for her delicious food. Thanks to your generous donations to our Ramadan campaign, Um Ahmad, along with her team, has been cooking and distributing an average of 150 meals a day to those in need within her community During Ramadan, Umi hires skilled cooks from within the community to purchase their ingredients from local merchants and provide hot, fresh, healthy meals to those in need around them.
The Kind Combo

Rahma & Muna

Meet Rahma and Muna — two beautiful souls, each a warrior in her own way. Alongside many of the mothers we work with, they share a deep love for handmade work and an endless appetite for learning any craft that involves their hands. What inspires us most is their unwavering sense of responsibility and solidarity. Even when life is heavy and challenges arise at home, these women show up for one another. They cover for each other when needed. The way they support, protect, and care for one another is a powerful reminder that kindness, integrity, and community are still very much alive.
The Perfectionist Cross Stitcher

Um Rami

Meet Nour, the perfectionist. Once you brief her on a job, she won’t rest until it’s done — and done even better than you imagined. Her attention to detail, commitment, and pride in her work are impossible to miss. What we love most about Nour is how she’s always driven by a goal. Something to look forward to, something that keeps her motivated. One time, it was buying a carpet before winter. Another time, a new cupboard for her small kitchen. She reminds us that joy doesn’t always come from big dreams — sometimes it lives in the quiet excitement of looking forward to the little things.

If you know a mother facing vulnerability who is seeking meaningful work, we’d love to connect with her.
